In July, two BCom Honours students in Information Systems Management — Clarice de Bruyn and Khahliso Ledingwane — spent three weeks on exchange at the Institute for Software Engineering and Vehicle Informatics at the Technical University of Braunschweig in Germany. In addition to the learning opportunity for the students, the research internship strengths the ongoing exchange between the two universities. Hosted by Prof. Dr. Schaefer –who recently spent a sabbatical in Stellenbosch– Clarice and Khahliso were able to participate in a range of the institute’s activities, contributing to the scientific outputs as needed, as well as spending a week at a local automotive company in the region.
Commenting on the exchange, Professor Schaefer sees advantages for both sides in such a research internship: “I think that we should set students in motion. This exchange benefits the students who can gain experience, but also the universities, which receive new input from international students. Our goal is to develop a regular exchange program.”
For further comment, an interview with Clarice and Khahliso appears in the campus magazine at TU Braunschweig and is available here.
